As we enter into Autumn and the weather starts taking, an albeit very slow turn to coldness, I find us mummy’s always make sure that our babies are well prepared for the crisp cold weather that’s on the way but what about us, the glue that holds it all together!
So I’ve put together a list of all of my mummy winter essentials to get us through the months ahead.
1. A good winter jacket
I think every mum needs two good winter jacket to keep the harsh weather at bay, a day jacket and a going out coat to keep you nice and toasty throughout the winter months ahead. I like a good long padded jacket with a hood for everyday wear and a nice simple long coat for going out.
2. UGG Boots
You either love them or hate them, I fall into the love them category! As soon as the weather gets a little on the chilly side my UGG boots come out and my feet are kept toasty throughout the winter months. Some may say they’re a little clunky but they’re comfortable and warm, perfect for running around in the cold with a little one to chase after.
3. A nice snuggly scarf
Everyone needs at least one nice cosy scarf, something thick and soft to keep your neck and chest warm from the harsh wind and cold.
4. A light weight umbrella
This is the UK and the rain can arrive unexpectedly at any given time and amongst all the other crap we have to throw into our already brimming bag an umbrella is another must. My brolly broke a couple of weeks ago so while in Primark I spotted a light weight umbrella for £3, what more do you want.
5. Vitamin C
So I haven’t really taken vitamins, except for when I was pregnant, but this year I’ll be purchasing some vitamin C to help boost my immune system, especially as I commute into work on the tube and sit in an office. Lets face it us mummy’s don’t have time to get ill and end up in bed for a week!
6. Carmex Lip Balm
I love Carmex lip balm, especially for winter to help avoid dry, chapped lips which can be brought one by the change in weather and it lasts forever.
7. Body Shop Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel
If you haven’t discovered Body Shop’s anti-bacterial hand gel then now’s the time to check it out! These hand gels come in a number of yummy scents and smell absolutely delicious, so now you can keep germs at bay whithout that wierd sterile smell on your hands.
8. Hand Moisturiser
Another must in your handbag is hand moisturiser. Nobody wants to have dry, rough hands in winter and there’s so many nice smelling hand moisturisers out there why wouldn’t you want one in your handbag!
9. Face Moisturiser
As the weather changes you may want to change up your moisturisers to something a little richer to combat dry skin. I’m still using the same moisturiser for during the day, Simple’s Kind to Skin Protecting Light Moisturiser with SPF 15, which I mentioned in my Everyday Skincare Routine post, but at night I’ll be using Nivea’s original Creme as it’s richer and more moisturising so will help soften my skin ready for the next day.
10. Satin Pillowcase
OK you might be wondering about this one but did you know sleeping on a satin pillow case is kinder to your hair and skin than a cotton one! As much as I love the colder weather it can be a bit harsh and play havoc with your skin and tresses, double that with sleeping on a cotton pillowcase which can break your hair and dry your skin out even more isn’t helping. Switching to a satin pillowcase allows your skin and hair to not only retain moisture but doesn’t pull when you move around, meaning you can wake up with glowy skin and hair that doesn’t look like you’ve been dragged through a bush!
So there you have it, my mummy winter essentials. What can’t you live without this winter?
