As a couple pre-child my Mr H and I never really had Christmas traditions but I love the idea of having a particular thing to do which is special for this time of year and which you continue to do as a family each year. I suppose for me my Christmas tradition is celebrating Christmas and New Years with my parents each year
We haven’t really started any Christmas traditions since having baby K but as he’s a little older and has more of an understanding of Christmas so I want to start some new Christmas traditions that we can enjoy as a family for years to come, which would also build great memories for baby K when he looks back on Christmas as a child.
So here’s a list of some of the things I would like to make into a Christmas tradition
☆ Christmas Eve Box☆
I love the idea of a Christmas Eve box! We were never allowed to open a present on Christmas Eve and I don’t think I’d let baby K do it either, a Christmas Eve box is a great alternative. I love that the night before you present your little one with a box full of goodies to add to the magic of Christmas.
☆ Baking Cookies☆
I love baking and baby K loves gingerbreads so this is something we could do together. I think a persons sense of smell can transport you back to a certain time and place and I’d love babybK to have memories of our house smelling of cookies. I’m going to attempt to give this a go this year deligating cookie cutting and icing to my two year old so fingers crossed.
☆ Christmas Movie Night ☆
I have so many favourite Christmas movies and lets face it I’m not 24 ready to party the festive season away, so kicking off the festive season with a Christmas movie night is my kind of thing. At the moment our movie nights with baby K consist of Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas, as long as we’re all snuggled on the sofa I’ll take it!
☆ Leaving Milk and Cookies out for Santa☆
I’ve purchased a personalised Christmas Eve plate for baby K this year and yes I know you can use a normal plate, but there’s something special about using the same Christmas themed one every year. So this year we’ll be placing Santa’s drink and treat on to his little plate along with a carrot for Rudolph adding to the magic of Santa’s arrival.
☆ Visiting the West End for Dinner and to see the Christmas Lights☆
We did this last year and baby K loved seeing all the lights and it was a fun day out just walking around enjoying the sights. We’re a little too busy this year to go before Christmas but my plan is to slot it in after New Years as a nice finishing touch to my favourite tine of year.
☆ Watching a Christmas Panto☆
This will be our first year going to a Christmas panto and I can’t wait, baby K did well at the cinema so I hope he enjoys the theatre just as much.
So there you have it, my Christmas tradition wishlist! Do you have any Christmas traditions and if so which are your favourite!
