As much as I have tried to ditch diaries and organisers and be all high tech and use my phone to plan and organise my life I have to concede it just doesn’t work for me. I like to have a nice planner which I can fill with my day to day activities, thoughts and future plans and most of all somewhere to stash important letters, notifications etc.
Last year my life was nicely kept on track with my 2016 Life Book by Organised Mum (now Box Clever Press) which I absolutely loved, but for 2017 I decided to try another diary designed for busy mums which was put together by Mum’s Office, so I opted to go for their 2017 Mum’s Diary in champagne.
Let me start by saying I absolutely love the colour of this diary, it looks elegant and very grown up and the hardback cover feels like it will last for the whole year without looking to shabby by the end of 2017. In terms of size the diary measures 18cm by 12cm and is very lightweight, so it won’t take up too much space in your bag or weigh it down.
The first few pages of the diary are filled with tips from the Mum’s Office team on how to make your life easier by staying organised and how you can use the diary to help you.
After all the handy tips you have the following sections:
‘Information’ – Designed for you to log important info regarding yourself and your family members such as their names, contact information, national insurance numbers, vaccination dates for your children and so forth, this will cover yourself, your partner and your kids ensuring all the details you need to know are in one place
‘Important’ – Helps you keep track of pocket money, dates to remember and a place to log travel plans
‘Need to Know’ – Keeps you aware of need to know dates, size conversions, contact numbers and websites.
‘Our Plans’ – Provides you with a space to make plans for the current and following year.
All of this is closely followed by the planner section itself which has a week to view layout over two pages. The first page has your standard Monday to Sunday layout whilst the second page has been laid out like a grid with four separate columns to use as you please. In my case I used the main page for all of my plans, appointment etc. and the column section for Mr H, Baby K, ‘Things to Remember’ & a ‘Meal Planner’.
Other handy features of this diary include a pen loop, which I wish the Organised Mum diaries had, two sectioning ribbons so you can mark out pages and a little pocket on the inside of the back cover of the diary for you to store loose or important pieces of paper so they don’t get lost.
Having been using the Organised Mum Life Book the size of the spaces provided to write your plans down on seemed to be a little on the small side for me especially if you have a lot going on, I would have liked the grid section to be a little bit bigger. It is handy however that you can use this part of the diary for anything you want, so it doesn’t have to be for family members, which can be useful.
After using the diary for a couple of months my overall thoughts are that size wise it’s great to throw in your bag without taking up too much space or weighing your bag down, so perfect for someone who want’s a more compact diary. In comparison to the Organised Mum Life Book, I personally prefer the Life Book due to the size and the fact that it has a few more planning sections for the months ahead as it helps keep me a little bit more on track.
Have you used anything from Mum’s Office? What make is your favourite diary?
A little note – I have in no way been paid or approached by any of the companies mentioned above for this review. I am simply sharing my thoughts on a product that I have purchased and used myself!
