Review: myHummy Humming Bear

When I had my son in 2014 I was oblivious to some of the baby sleeping aids that where around, with my son I had the Fisher Price Glow Horse to lull him into a deep sleep. Three years later and with a new addition to the Diapers at Dawn household I have discovered the miracle of white noise.

Yes fellow mummys and daddys let me let you in on a little secret newborns love white noise, so much so that a study has revealed that a “newborn baby is three times more likely to fall asleep to white noise” as it reminds them of being in the womb.

To be honest I was a little sceptical of the powers of white noise until one sleep deprived night I decided to download an app on my phone and give it a go and to my surprise it worked!

I know what you’re thinking why pay for a teddy when you can download a free app and get the same result? Well for starters I need my phone and secondly I didn’t like the idea of leaving my phone next to my newborn everytime she slept or throughout the night.

So after scouring the internet for an alternative I discovered myHummy a world of child friendly white noise sleep aids designed by parents for sleep deprived parents!

There are three different types of white noise toys in the myHummy collection to choose from- the Teddy Bears, Snoozy and Sleepy Head – we were kindly sent Pearl the princess teddy bear to review and after using her for one week straight for every nap time I have to say she has quickly become this mummy’s new BFF!

The first thing I was surprised about upon receiving our new teddy was the size. I was expecting something smaller but this is perfect for a growing baby as it’s something that they will not easily outgrow and will stand the test of time.

The packaging displays Pearl really well and is very sturdy ensuring she didn’t get crushed on her way to us. The box  displays useful information of the benefits of using white noise to help babies sleep and the awards and recommendstions of the myHummy brand.

The fabric of the teddy is silky soft and safe for baby to snuggle up to and it doesn’t matter if baby has grubby little fingers as Pearl and all the teddies in the collection are machine washable at 40 degrees, a plus for us parents.

Inside the box we had our lovely soft Pearl teddy, a cute little thank you for purchasing me note, instructions and the thing that creates the magic, your teddys humming heart (the white noise sensor).

The white noise device has five different sounds programmed onto it – a hairdryer, vacuum cleaner, ocean waves, rainfall and amniotic fluid with heartbeat – simply pop in three AAA batteries and choose which sound you like the best, we’ve so far tried out rainfall and ocean waves and both have managed to put my little one to sleep with no problems.

To choose your favourite sound simply double click the button to skip through, once you’ve settled on the one you want pop the device into the teddies side pocket, zip it up and your good to go.

There are two settings on the sound device, non-stop mode, which is exactly that the sounds plays continuously and sleep sensor mode, which we’ve been using as it plays your selected sound for 60 minutes before gradually fading out BUT if your baby stirs sleep sensor mode picks up on your babies sounds and automatically comes back on so you don’t have to keep running up and down the stairs to restart the teddy, bonus!

Since we’ve been using Pearl my little lady has been having naps for nearly four hours at a time, she finds the sounds soothing to the point that I pop her in her cot, start her teddy and she pretty much falls asleep by herself.

Our new little friend has quickly become a must have and even though it’s a little on the pricey side at £59 the quality of the teddy and the fact that my baby is sleeping makes it worth every penny. Pearl has made sleeping so easy that I’ve now purchased a myHummy Sleepy Head, which does exactly the same as the teddy but is more travel friendly as you can attach it to your car seat, pram or baby carrier ensuring we have car journeys and days out covered!

A little note- I was kindly provided with a myHummy teddy in return for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.
